I love the old hymns. The lyrics read like sermons, packed with conviction and substance. I've always appreciated music like that - songs that make us stop and think about our lives.

When Times Square Church asked me a couple of years ago to write something for a missions conference being hosted in New York, they gave me a simple brief: James 1:27. It was a tremendous challenge to put a verse like that to song and to try to capture the heart of what it conveys.

As the record Wake Me Up developed, missions-related material became somewhat of a theme. Connecting the work to ChildCry was very natural.

Here was a way for the music to help generate funding and awareness for an organization I believe in - and for what I was doing to have a direct and practical impact in the life of someone in desperate need.

Whoever you are, whatever your talent, if you'll offer it to the Lord, He will see that nothing is wasted and that “…in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
