“I love playing music and I love creating music, but above all, I love when the Lord tunes me into His heart. God has allowed me to get a hold of His heart for the poor, the needy and the afflicted. Feeding hungry children is a priority to God
My love for music came from my parents. My mother sang worship all her life. My father plays guitar, writes his own music, and has been singing for the Lord since he was 19. I sang in school choirs from Junior high to High School, then I fell in love with the guitar and was inspired by my father and friends to start writing my own music.
In my late teens the youth pastor at the church where I grew up asked me to lead worship for the youth. I loved singing but at that point I couldn't play guitar and sing at the same time! God gave me grace during that season to grow musically, but I learned a critical lesson. As worship leader I don’t need to be a prolific guitarist or an amazing vocalist. The one thing I need is what only the Lord can give: His anointing! God has proven himself so faithful to me. Every time He has asked me to step out of the boat, He has always provided His anointing. I am living proof that He has chosen the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.
I love playing music and I love creating music, but above all, I love when the Lord tunes me into His heart, choosing to use me in some measure to bless His name and bless His beloved people, despite my shortcomings.
I recently had the opportunity to travel to Argentina and Burundi to participate in humanitarian outreaches. One theme resonated from start to finish throughout these outreaches: “When we meet the needs of the poor, we tap into the very heart of God.”
My heart broke for the children we encountered, as I imagined my son and daughter in the same situation -- filthy, wearing old, tattered clothing, disease ridden and malnourished. God used us as His hands, feet and voice to remind them that they are not forgotten. Jesus has seen their needs, heard their cries, and promised to answer them.
I believe that God has allowed me to experience these things to get a hold of His heart for the poor, the needy and the afflicted. Feeding hungry children is a priority to God. It is an awesome privilege to be a part of His plan for these children through ChildCry.
