Erika Thomas What could possibly be more rewarding than ending the work day knowing that in some small way your efforts will touch the life of a hungry child? Working as a designer on behalf of ChildCry has been an amazing experience. It’s also been a learning process, as “Petey Yikes!” was the first children’s book I’d ever designed as well as my first attempt at illustration.

When Pastor Carter told us he had an idea for a book, there was a sense of God’s stamp of approval, but once it was decided that the proceeds would go toward feeding children, a whole new level of excitement and passion was infused into the project. Suddenly God began dropping design inspiration from heaven and the creativity just started flowing. Intermingling Pastor Carter’s storyline with Treg McCoy’s pen drawings, and then adding the colorful bells and whistles became almost effortless as I prayed over each page for God’s direction. God is the true art director of all of these projects and I rely solely on His divine creativity and guidance.

It seems that whenever a project is especially close to His heart, as ChildCry undoubtedly is, God shows up in amazing ways. His ability to take a simple book idea and use it to spawn a ministry that feeds hungry children around the world is beyond what any of us could have foreseen when we started this journey. That He would choose us to participate in His great plan is an honor.

The Bible tells us that, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” and all these years later He still hasn’t run out of creative ideas. To God be the glory for the great things He has done!
